A late-night burst of gunfire at a Garland apartment complex left one man dead last Friday, after officers found him wounded in a stairwell and rushed him to a hospital, where he later died, police said. The call came in around 9 p.m., with reports of shots ringing out at a building on River Fern Drive.
What police say
According to a post by the Garland Police Department, officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 300 block of River Fern Drive, where they located a man in an enclosed stairwell with an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later died.
Detectives have opened a homicide investigation and are working to collect evidence and speak with witnesses, the department said.
