Amazon to temporarily close Port St. Lucie fulfillment center, laying off 500 workers

PORT ST. LUCIE — Amazon will shut down operations at its Port St. Lucie fulfillment center later this year, laying off nearly 500 employees as the company prepares a major renovation and expansion of the warehouse.

The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice with the state and the city of Port St. Lucie. According to the notice, the layoffs will begin Sept. 17 and continue through Dec. 17.
