SHAWNEE, Kan. (KCTV) – Melissa’s Second Chances held its monthly nail trim fundraiser Sunday, offering pet owners a walk-in option to get their dog’s, cat’s, or small animal’s nails trimmed for $15 — with every dollar raised going toward vet bills for animals in the rescue’s care.
The event ran from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment was required.
About the fundraiser
The organization typically sees 50 to 70 families at each monthly event, generating between $750 and more than $1,000 per month. Those funds help cover the cost of spaying or neutering, vaccinations, and microchipping for every animal before it is adopted out.
Heidi Trautman, a general board member at Melissa’s Second Chances, said the fundraiser serves two purposes.
“We do it monthly not only to help the community and making sure it’s best to get your animals’ nails trimmed regularly, but it does put a decent amount of, I would say, a dent in our vet bills,” Trautman said…
