(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Today will be the hottest day of the week as a strong area of high pressure remains parked over Colorado. That will keep conditions hot and dry east of the mountains, while monsoonal moisture continues to stream into western Colorado. As a result, the best chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms will stay confined to the higher terrain, while the eastern plains bake under the summer heat.
The hot conditions have prompted a Heat Advisory from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for El Paso County and parts of Fremont County. Heat advisories are issued when temperatures become hazardous to your health, so if you’ll be spending time outdoors today, be sure to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in the shade, and limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day. High temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 90s across the Pikes Peak Region, with triple-digit heat expected in Cañon City and along the lower Arkansas River Valley.
