A Downers Grove man is accused of running a suburban drug pipeline that prosecutors say pulled fentanyl, heroin, cocaine and counterfeit M30 pills into McHenry County over several months. Aaron Johnson, 30, was arrested Thursday in Crystal Lake after an undercover investigation that authorities say turned up roughly 227 grams of fentanyl and hundreds of fake pills.
Undercover sting builds for months
According to a press release from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, investigators carried out a series of controlled buys between May and July. Those operations allegedly produced significant quantities of fentanyl, heroin, cocaine and counterfeit M30 pills.
Prosecutors say the early undercover purchases yielded more than 30 grams of fentanyl mixed with cocaine and heroin, more than 60 grams of fentanyl mixed with cocaine, and close to 300 fake M30 tablets. Investigators then arranged what they described as a larger deal. That planned transaction was cut short, and when officers moved in to arrest Johnson, they say they found about 40 grams of a cocaine-fentanyl mix, nearly 30 grams of a heroin-fentanyl mix, and roughly 500 additional counterfeit M30 pills on him. All told, authorities say the probe led them to about 227 grams of fentanyl.
