(Glenwood) — Petitions are circulating to place the question of expanding the Mills County Board of Supervisors on the ballot.
“Mills County Matters” working group member Chris Weide provided that update during the latest county board of supervisors meeting, indicating that his group had officially launched the petition drive to force a ballot question asking voters whether or not to expand the board from three to five members. The move comes after the board of supervisors rejected a resolution to place the question on the ballot by a 2-1 vote earlier this month. Weide says he has already begun visiting households throughout the county, gauging residents’ interest in the topic.
“I knocked on about 90 doors and probably about 35 responded and only five were negative,” said Weide. “So, it’s pretty clear that there’s a mandate as 30 out of the 35 signed on. So, I know some of our current supervisors say we don’t want it, but it appears from early numbers that they probably do.”…
