OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – With temperatures reaching 100 degrees, outdoor work crews and utility officials are adjusting their routines and urging residents to conserve water and energy.
Metropolitan Utilities District crews were stationed near 120th and Military Road on Monday laying gas lines. They wrapped up work about an hour earlier than usual — a common practice on high-heat days, according to MUD.
MUD crews adjust schedules, hydration in extreme heat
Kendall Minor, MUD’s chief operating officer, said crews typically start their workday earlier during hot weather, take extra breaks, and stay hydrated with water or sports drinks.
“Normal work hours they work from 6 a.m. when the weather is really hot. When the weather is not as hot they will start at 7 and they work normally till 3:30-4:00 p.m.,” said Minor. “Overtime is dependent on if we have outages or other demands on the system that we need to address in a timely manor.”…
