The boudin melt from Elsie’s Plate and Pie

In Mid City, Elsie’s is an exceptional place to take people who are from out of town. One, the menu has a little bit of everything for everyone. Two, the menu also offers several Louisiana or Cajun-style dishes, so your visitors can really get a sense of the state.

Personally, boudin is up there in my top 10 favorite foods, so any dish with it on the menu calls to me.

The boudin melt at Elsie’s is filled with pepper jack cheese, house-made boudin, caramelized onions and roasted jalapenos on the crispiest sourdough bread I’ve ever tasted. The crunch was phenomenal. I don’t know who the boudin man is at Elsie’s, but he needs a raise. It’s seasoned — not too spicy, but not too bland — and it pairs well with the smoky pepper jack cheese…
