CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) – UVA Health is now offering a first-in-the-state treatment for uveal melanoma, a rare cancer that originates in the eye and spreads to the liver, affecting several thousand people each year.
Dr. Daniel Sheeran, an interventional radiologist with UVA Health, said the cancer behaves differently from other forms of melanoma.
“It does act a little bit differently than what many people may think of when they think about melanoma. It is nonetheless still the most common diagnosis of a primary eye cancer in adults,” Sheeran said.
