Additional showers and storms are anticipated today as the cold front that brought the storms Tuesday evening slowly progresses through the area. As a result, this could allow for a “training storms” or repeated rounds of heavy rain. The axis of heavy rain is expected to be near and just to the north of I-40 through this afternoon. Localized totals of 1″-3″ of rain are possible. Highs will reach the mid 80s.
Scattered rain and storms will continue to be around this evening/tonight. The highest threat for areas of flash flooding will shift south and focus on the mountains and southern valley. Slightly less humid air will move in from the north. This will allow for a slightly more comfortable start tomorrow morning, especially in Southeast Kentucky. Morning lows will be in the 60s.
A “brief” break from the higher summer heat and humidity is expected on Thursday. Areas north of Knoxville will see the lowest humidity levels. Plenty of clouds will be around with highs in the mid 80s. Moisture levels will start to ramp up on Friday. A few isolated storms are possible, especially during the afternoon/evening.
