NAVASSA, N.C. (WECT) – A community meeting next week will focus on plans to remove a contaminated-soil staging pile from a portion of the Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp. – Navassa Superfund site.
The Multistate Environmental Response Trust will host the meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at the Navassa Community Center, in coordination with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.
Organizers said the staging pile, contaminated soil temporarily placed in the Operable Unit 4 area of the site, is expected to be removed and disposed of at an EPA-approved landfill by November 2026…
