It won’t erase the drought. But copious rainfall across the Cape Fear region will certainly put a dent in the deficit.
Fayetteville and the Cape Fear region dodged the deluge that walloped Greensboro and the Piedmont, where up to 7 inches of rain had already fallen by Thursday afternoon. Totals in our neck of the woods could easily top 3 inches by the time the rain moves offshore.
In all, total rainfall from a slow-moving front crawling through the Carolinas will be the heaviest rain event in 12 months, when our drought began. Look for continuing on-and-off showers and below-normal temperatures into the weekend. It’s been a while since Fayetteville has seen either of them.
Here’s the setup
A slow-moving frontal boundary crawled into the Carolinas early Thursday. It collided with a moisture-rich flow from the Gulf, with predictable results. The front will likely stall along the NC-SC border, with scattered showers rolling west to east along the boundary…
