Conway adds unique benches made from repurposed wind turbine blades to downtown scene

CONWAY, S.C. — Visitors to downtown Conway and Riverfront Park have a new reason to stop and take in views of the Waccamaw River — five sculptural benches made from repurposed wind turbine blades have been placed along the waterfront to give visitors a place to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Unlike traditional park benches, these seats are designed to serve as both functional seating and public art. Their curved, teardrop-shaped design adds a distinctive element to the park and around downtown Conway.

Three of the benches have already been installed at Riverfront Park.

The city plans to incorporate the remaining two benches into one of its Halloween displays this year before moving them to Riverfront Park after the holiday.

City staff plans to have artists paint the sides of the benches in the future, with designs inspired by Conway’s natural environment, history and holiday spirit…
