JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Grocery stores across the country are pulling certain produce from shelves amid an ongoing outbreak of cyclosporiasis, a parasite known to cause explosive diarrhea. An Arkansas medical expert says the risk in the state is lower than elsewhere but urges consumers to shop locally.
Shane Speights, dean of the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University, said no outbreak of the parasite has been reported in Arkansas at this time, though individual cases have been documented.
Speights said national chain distributors, including Taylor Farms, are thought to be among the biggest contributors to the ongoing outbreak. He added that the exact cause of the outbreak remains unknown…
