ACWORTH — The historic McCray House has a new lease on life after the home was successfully restored following its relocation last week.
The pre-Civil War home was built in the mid-1850s by early Acworth settlers Matthew Phillips and his wife Martha Smith Phillips. Though the exact year the house was built is unknown, the home is an estimated 170 years old.
According to the city, in 1962 the Phillips family sold the home to a local developer, John Davis, who then sold it to Olan and Ruby McCray in 1963. The McCrays moved in with their three children, Leman “Moose,” Helen and Raymond…
