A routine property cleanup in northeast Charlotte turned into a major investigation when human remains were discovered on a parcel off Holly Ridge Lane near Mallard Creek Road, according to Mecklenburg County deputies. A 35-year-old man was arrested after the discovery, and the county medical examiner has been asked to perform an autopsy to determine the victim’s identity and cause of death. Investigators say their work is ongoing but that there is no known threat to the public.
According to WCNC, detectives took 35-year-old Jonathan Green into custody on Oct. 10 and booked him on a possession-of-a-stolen-vehicle charge, citing booking records. As part of the broader investigation, authorities searched the property, collected evidence and conducted multiple interviews.
Search and investigation
The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office told WCNC that the remains were found by someone who was cleaning the land. Officials emphasized that “there is no known threat to the public at this time” as forensic testing continues. The medical examiner is conducting additional analysis to confirm the victim’s identity and determine how and when the person died, the sheriff’s office said.
