Atlanta Cops Sweep McDaniel Street, Nab Alleged Gang Member and Two More

Atlanta officers doing a post-shooting canvass at a southwest side apartment complex last Friday ended up with more than just leads. Police say they arrested a man they described as a known gang member along with two other people, and later turned up five firearms in a follow-up search.

What police found

According to Atlanta News First, investigators were canvassing 369 McDaniel St. SW when they located 35-year-old Rodney Grant inside an apartment. Body-camera video released by authorities shows officers using a loudspeaker to call Grant out of the unit before taking him into custody.

Atlanta News First reports that investigators also arrested 21-year-old Leglance Mallory and 20-year-old Jarquez Kelley during the sweep. After the three were detained, officers conducted a follow-up search that police say turned up five guns.

The complex sits on a block that has kept Atlanta officers busy. Public news posts from the Atlanta Police Department show multiple recent responses to the McDaniel Street address, including shots-fired and person-shot calls. That history is part of why investigators were canvassing the property after the reported shooting.
