SCHENECTADY — There’s no consensus yet over the progress of an advisory group the City Council created after failing to reach a consensus about certain housing policies.
To mixed reviews, the city’s Housing Stability Task Force recently released its recommendations for improving housing opportunities in a long-awaited report. It comes nearly a year after the council created the group to analyze the city’s housing issues after narrowly voting down “good cause” eviction, a state law enacted in 2024 to help protect renters against retaliatory evictions and allow renters to challenge rent hikes in court.
