Bethlehem CSD appoints interim elementary principal

DELMAR, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Bethlehem Central School District has appointed an interim principal for Hamagrael Elementary School. Heather Culnan will step into the role on August 31.

Culnan currently serves as the assistant principal for Bethlehem Central High School — a position she began in 2012. She holds more than 25 years of experience in education and has also previously worked at the Schuylerville Central School District and the South Colonie Central School District.

“Heather Culnan knows Bethlehem, she knows leadership and she knows how to engage elementary students,” said Superintendent Jody Monroe. “I am confident that, together with faculty and staff, Ms. Culnan will provide a strong foundation for a successful 2026-27 school year.”

She will replace current Hamagrael Principal Ian Knox, who will reportedly be taking a one-year leave of absence to pursue another professional opportunity out of the district. Culnan said she plans to focus on supporting the strong work already underway at the elementary school while also welcoming the students and families joining the school following the district’s elementary attendance zone changes.

“I am looking forward to building new relationships with the students, staff and families at Hamagrael Elementary,” Culnan said. “I’m especially excited to return to my elementary roots and be part of the school environment that first inspired my love of learning and education.”…
