Strong July storm to unleash flooding rain across the Northeast through Thursday

An unusually strong July storm will bring flooding rain to New York City, Boston and much of the Northeast, with flash flooding, travel disruptions and localized rainfall totals up to 12 inches possible.

An unusually strong storm for late July will strengthen across the Northeast through the middle of this week, bringing up to a foot of rain in some locations that could trigger flash flooding.

The storm system will develop overnight Monday into Tuesday, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms from the Carolinas into New England. Some thunderstorms are expected to become severe across the mid-Atlantic, while flooding rainfall will be the primary concern farther north.
