PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island’s influential building trades unions are poised to officially throw their support behind Gov. Dan McKee’s reelection campaign later this week, 12 News has learned.
A flyer now in circulation shows the R.I. Building & Construction Trades Council, which represents 16 private-sector unions, is organizing a rally to support the governor for Thursday evening. It will be held at the Cranston headquarters of IBEW Local 99.
Michael Sabitoni — who serves as both president of the trades council and general secretary-treasurer of the powerful Laborers’ International Union of North America — has not yet announced an endorsement in the race for governor, but he has spoken warmly of McKee’s labor record in the past…
