Department of Energy declares emergency in Arkansas, 16 other states amid heat wave

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Department of Energy has issued an emergency for 17 states during the intense heat wave currently affecting the country.

The emergency allows the Southwest Power Pool, Inc. to “dispatch specified generation units and to order their operation as needed to maintain reliability,” according to a news release from the DoE.
