ST. LOUIS — Hazy skies could make a return to the Midwest this week as smoke from major wildfires burning in the Pacific Northwest drifts eastward. More than 30 large wildfires are burning across Oregon and Washington, scorching nearly 1 million acres, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.
The thickest smoke remains closest to the fires across parts of Oregon, Idaho, Montana and the Dakotas, where some communities are experiencing unhealthy air quality.
