PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A utility building fire near Happy Valley Park on Sunday was caused by a utility terrain vehicle that caught fire, Clackamas Fire officials announced on Monday.
Campaign launched to open new ‘Parkrose Grocery’
The fire closed down a portion of the park and prompted officials to issue a public alert warning to nearby homes, warning them to stay inside due to potentially harmful smoke. Firefighters initially responded just before noon on Sunday, and the fire was under control about a half hour later. No one was injured.
The building was full of things like gasoline, park maintenance equipment and lawnmowers, causing some explosions during the fire, which neighbors said sounded like popping noises.
“At this time, the exact cause of the UTV’s ignition has not been determined,” Clackamas Fire said in a Facebook post.
