BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield Animal Control is asking the community to consider donating items that will help keep the shelter dogs cool, safe and comfortable during the July heat wave.
The Bakersfield Animal Control office at 201 South Mount Vernon Ave has around 262 dogs in the shelter. Director John Proctor said they’re tolerating the heat, but just barely.

Temperatures have been frequently reaching three digits in recent weeks, and are expected to climb to 107 degrees over multiple days next week.
The Mount Vernon Avenue shelter will gladly accept donated industrial-size fans and mobile swamp coolers to keep the dogs cool, according to Proctor. The dogs live both indoors and outdoors at the shelter, both in their kennels and the facility’s recreation area…
