KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The case against the man accused of shooting a sheriff’s deputy is moving forward after a hearing Tuesday.
Jaylen Lipsey, 28, was formally charged with assault with intent to murder and issued a $1 million bond for release on July 20 after Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputy Kaleb Mortimer was shot while responding to a larceny at Richland Auto on East AB avenue just before 9 a.m. July 17.

Lipsey had his probable cause conference at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and the judge ruled his case will continue to move forward, with his next hearing, a preliminary examination, scheduled for Sept. 3.
