HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — When students return to classrooms next month, some schools will be at over-capacity.
According to the Horry County Planning Commission, if a school is operating at least 95% capacity, it has reached the capacity threshold. Twenty schools in the district are now over the threshold.
One of the most notable schools far above that threshold is Carolina Forest High School. Lisa Bourcier, director of communications with Horry County Schools, said the school was built to hold 2,388 students, but for the 2026-2027 school year it’s projected to have 2,825 students.
