EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) — State police officers survived a pair of ambushes and a 30-minute shootout on Monday afternoon on a remote dirt road in western Chihuahua.
According to the State Secretariat of Public Safety (SSPE), the officers were patrolling between the towns of Temechi and Chopeque, south of Guerrero, when they came under fire.
Officials said the officers noticed a vehicle approaching them before the occupants began shooting. The officers were able to position themselves and immediately return fire.

Moments later, seven additional vehicles reportedly arrived, each carrying more gunmen to back the initial attackers.
Officials said the officers engaged in an exchange of fire that lasted approximately 30 minutes.
