More than 200 citations for speeding were issued on Transmountain Road during a six-day stretch earlier this month as law enforcement officers in El Paso County take part in Operation Slow Down.
The operation is part of the Texas Department of Transportation’s new statewide safety campaign reminding drivers to obey posted speed limits. Operation Slow Down started in early July and runs through Sunday, Aug. 2.
“Our goal is not to issue citations, it’s to save lives,” El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said in a statement. “When drivers see deputies out enforcing traffic laws, they’re reminded to slow down and make safer choices behind the wheel.”…
