A historic Milwaukee landmark on the city’s west side is getting a second life, with Milwaukee County backing a private plan to turn it into Phoenix Residential, a 41-unit mashup of short-term crisis housing and permanent affordable apartments.
New photos published this week show interior work wrapping up in the crisis units as the development moves toward occupancy later this year. County leaders are pitching the building as a pilot that puts emergency shelter, on-site services and longer-term housing under one roof.
KG Development Group is converting the former Milwaukee Jewish Home at 2436 N. 50th St. into 41 apartments, according to Milwaukee County. The plan calls for 20 crisis beds and 21 units rented at affordable rates, with eight of those units tied to project-based vouchers.
