(COLORADO SPRINGS) — K9 Roam, who medically retired from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) in January after being injured in the line of duty, will be honored during this year’s Medal of Valor ceremony, set to take place in September.
K9 Roam was attacked by a suspect in October of 2025 while responding to a call. As a result, Roam received emergency surgery, which included the amputation of his left hind leg. Roam medically retired from CSPD during a ceremony on Jan. 26, which also marked the first step in his new role as a Special Department Advisor.
“His recovery’s been fantastic; he’s full of life [and] energy,” Officer Robert Comstock, Roam’s handler, told FOX21 News previously. “He’s been happy through the whole ordeal; his tail is always wagging; he’s just phenomenal.”
In September, Roam will be honored during the 41st Annual Medal of Valor Dinner. “CSPD has created the Police Canine Medal of Courage, with the first one ever being awarded to K9 Roam!” the Police Foundation of Colorado Springs (PFCS) announced on Facebook.
The event is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 25 at Broadmoor Hall. Tickets and table sponsorships are available. “Help us celebrate our city’s heroic officers, both human and K9, and get tickets now!”
According to the police foundation, there will also be a silent auction at the event…
