Want to ride a Jet Ski? You’ll need a boating safety card in RI

WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Personal watercraft like Jet Skis are a fun way to catch some waves, but local police and experienced riders are reminding people to do so safely.

In the past few years, there’s been a noticeable increase in people trying out the sport, according to Warwick Police Capt. Jeffrey Viveiros.

“We started seeing an influx of Jet Skiers probably around 2020 in our city, in Warwick, for a variety of reasons,” he told 12 News. “Some of it had to do with Jet Ski rental companies that were popping up, some of it had to do with people staying home due to the pandemic.”

To keep up with that trend, the city’s marine unit is out every weekend throughout the summer. No matter your mode of water transportation, police are keeping a close eye on your driving habits…
