SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Edited News Release/KY3) – The Salvation Army of Springfield has received a $2 million grant from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation after completing the foundation’s challenge requirement, bringing the Lives Transformed Campaign to approximately $15.8 million of its $20 million goal.
The grant will support construction of a new Harbor House shelter, a Customer Choice Food Pantry and planned expansions to the Family Enrichment Center. The projects are intended to increase the organization’s capacity to serve individuals and families in Greene and Christian counties experiencing homelessness, food insecurity and other barriers to stability.
What the campaign will fund
The centerpiece of the Lives Transformed Campaign is the new Harbor House, which will replace the current 85-year-old facility. The new shelter will include 50 program beds, 10 respite beds and 40 crisis cold-weather beds, along with classroom and training space for recovery, job readiness and life-skills development.
The campaign also includes the construction of a dedicated Customer Choice Food Pantry and warehouse to increase food distribution capacity, the expansion of the Family Enrichment Center to serve more families through the Salvation Army’s Pathway of Hope program, and an investment in program support and strategic reserves.
