ALBANY, N.Y. (WNYT — The Albany County Sheriff’s Office said five inmates now face felony charges after investigators said they assaulted and robbed another inmate inside the county jail.
According to police, sheriff’s investigators made the arrests July 28 after investigating an attack and robbery inside the Albany County Jail on July 9. Melvin D. Witherspoon, Tyleek R. Ramsey, Damonte N. Welcome, Tahjakese T. Hepburn and Joseff M. Robinson are accused of acting together to attack another inmate in his cell.
Investigators said the group used force to remove the inmate from the housing unit and stole his commissary items. The release said the inmate suffered a nasal bone fracture, swelling around the eye, bruising around his left eye and significant facial and body pain, and received medical treatment…
