The city of Greenville is considering asking voters to approve a penny tax to provide property tax relief to residents and fund critical infrastructure projects.
Estimates show that a 1% local sales tax could generate $511.6 million for the city of Greenville over the next eight years. The tax would add an extra penny to every dollar spent on qualifying retail purchases in the city, exempting most groceries, prescription medicines or gasoline.
