Approved: Funding package for sports and events center furniture
Council approved spending $685,000 for a furniture package to equip the city’s Sports and Events Center currently under construction near the intersection of South S.C. Highway 14 and South Buncombe Road.
In briefing council on the package contents, Sports and Events Center Director Adam Forringer said the furniture will be purchased through state term contracts that have gone through the state’s competitive bid process.
The bulk of the items will be a variety of tables and chairs for use in the gym, community room and cafe lounge and chosen to accommodate the types of meetings and events the center is expected to attract. Other items include office furniture and movable bleachers to accommodate on-court seating for the Sports and Events Center’s multiple hardwood courts. Forringer explained that staff worked with the project’s architectural firm, McMillan Pazdan Smith, to identify the center’s furniture needs.
