HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Huntsville City Schools students will have several changes to the district’s dress code when the 2026-2027 school year begins.
One of the biggest changes involves shorts. The previous requirement that shorts reached a specific mid-thigh hemline has been removed. Under the updated policy, shorts must cover a student’s bottom and undergarments at all times, including while sitting, standing, or reaching.
The upgraded dress code also allows students to wear leggings, joggers, and jeggings. Pants or jeans that have holes can not reveal the student’s hips, bottom, or undergarments.
Students will be prohibited from wearing hats, visors, hoods, and sunglasses inside school buildings. Tops must cover the torso on both the front and back, including when a student raises their arms…
