Driver charged after 2 MDOT workers hit and killed

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office has charged 24-year-old Tyler Reck, of DeWitt, with multiple felonies after two Michigan Department of Transportation workers were hit and killed on US-127 in Mason in May.

Bruce Wagner, 51, of Mason, and Steve Spenle, 49, also of Mason, were hit and killed on northbound US-127 near West Holt Road on May 26 after Reck reportedly lost control of his vehicle. The prosecutor’s office says that Reck was traveling at a “high rate of speed” at the time of the crash.

Reck is charged with the following:

  • Two counts of Reckless Driving Causing Death, a 15-year felony.
  • Two counts of Moving Violation Causing Death in a Work Zone, a 15-year felony.

Reck was arraigned in the 55th District Court of Ingham County on Monday. His bond has been set at $25,000. His pre-examination conference is set for Aug. 11. His preliminary examination is scheduled for Aug 18…
