LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — On July 3, Protect AR Rights, a citizen group seeking to put an amendment to the Arkansas Constitution on this November’s ballot, says they submitted enough petition signatures to make it on the ballot. On Thursday, Arkansas Secretary of State Cole Jester says not a single one was countable.
The “Ballot Measure Rights” amendment aimed to protect the very initiative and process the group has undertaken after state legislators added restrictions to direct democracy through numerous new laws seen as burdensome.
In a letter to Protect AR Rights, Jester said the petition pages did not use the exact name approved by the attorney general. According to the letter, 19,924 pages used “The Ballot Measure Rights Amendment of 2026,” while the approved name was “The Arkansas Ballot Measure Rights Amendment.”…
