LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Civil rights attorney Ben Crump announced Thursday he is taking on the case of Tyler Smith, an 18-year-old whose death Lexington police ruled accidental following a Fourth of July shooting on Blue Bonnet Drive.
Smith’s family has disputed that ruling and argued investigators did not do enough to establish the circumstances of his death. They also said a tampering charge against the one person charged in connection with the case falls short of justice.
Lexington Police have charged 20-year-old Bryce Chestnut with tampering with physical evidence in connection with Smith’s death.
