CHATHAM — On a wind-whipped Wednesday morning with heavy gray skies threatening rain, Jason Haggett and his family found shelter under a covered porch that looked over a broad expanse of Main Street.
Even with the cool weather, there was a steady stream of foot traffic. Families and couples, frequently balancing strollers, bags and cups of takeaway coffee, walked past.
Some headed through the door of nearby Yellow Umbrella Books, perhaps in search of that perfect beach read — or something to kill the time until the clouds passed…
