GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Storms become more likely this weekend, after a gorgeous stretch.
Saturday & Sunday: Rain Moves In
A frontal system approaches from the west during the day Saturday. The morning starts off dry with clouds on the increase. Showers and storms move in Saturday afternoon and evening, becoming more numerous overnight. It’s still hot, with highs in the low 90s in the Upstate and low 80s in the mountains.
The main threat becomes locally heavy rainfall as a plume of deep moisture and a strong low-level jet stream transport additional moisture into the region. Conditions favor the potential for some areas to experience more than an inch of rain from storms that move slowly or repeatedly over the same area. We can’t completely rule out damaging straight-line winds but the threat looks low.
Sunday brings showers and storms throughout the day, but don’t expect it to be a complete washout. Rain moves in, clears out, then returns — giving you breaks between the wet periods. A few thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon.
Locally heavy rainfall remains possible, particularly over the mountains where any training storms could enhance rainfall totals. Temperatures are cool in the low 80s in the Upstate and upper 70s in the mountains, however, it’s very humid.
Monday: More Wet Weather
Another round of showers and storms enters the picture Monday, especially during the afternoon and evening hours as the frontal system lingers in the area. Once again, it won’t be a washout, but keep the umbrellas handy all day. A little more sunshine peaking through between showers pushes highs into the low to mid 80s.
Tuesday and Beyond: Unsettled Pattern Continues
We return to a more typical summertime patter by Tuesday and trend a little drier each day. The chance for scattered rain and storms shifts into the afternoon with drier and mostly sunny mornings.
Temperatures moderate back toward normal, maxing out in the upper 80s in the Upstate and the low to mid 80s in the mountains. Overnight lows are in the mid 60s to low 70s with plenty of humidity.
