Lexington family becomes first-time homeowners through affordable housing development

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – After 12 years of renting, Sharell Byrd and her husband, Ledarius Jackson, became first-time homeowners Friday as Lexington celebrated the construction of new affordable housing developments.

The couple, along with their four children, stood alongside Mayor Linda Gorton, Lexington Housing Authority Executive Director Austin Simms and other community leaders to mark the occasion.

Nine new homes on Shropshire Avenue

The Byrd-Jackson home is one of nine new single-family homes on Shropshire Avenue developed by the Lexington Housing Authority. Five of those homes remain available for purchase.
