DES MOINES, Iowa — A contract extension offer by John Deere appears not to have been enough for UAW workers.
The current collective bargaining agreement is set to expire in 2027, and in response to lowered agricultural equipment demand and an unknown future for the industry, John Deere offered UAW workers an extension. A company spokesperson said earlier this month that the proposal includes everything from the current contract and would add additional compensation.
“The current collective bargaining agreement with the UAW is set to expire in fall 2027,” John Deere said. “With agricultural equipment demand down and the outlook uncertain, we’ve proposed an extension now to provide greater continuity and certainty for employees, the business, and our customers.”
