Stolen Honda hits patrol car in Salem, brief pursuit ends near downtown

SALEM, Ore. — A stolen vehicle call in Salem ended with two people in jail Friday morning, July 31, after a brief pursuit and a crash involving a patrol car, according to the Salem Police Department.

Salem PD said the incident began around 8:26 a.m. when officers spotted a stolen 1999 Honda CR-V in a parking lot in the 3200 block of Portland Road NE. As officers tried to stop the vehicle, it struck a patrol car while attempting to flee, causing minor damage.

A short pursuit was initiated, but Salem Police officers terminated the pursuit as it approached the downtown area, police said. Oregon State Police later located the vehicle on I-5 South and stopped it in the area of Skyline Boulevard and Kuebler Boulevard SE, where the driver was arrested…
