ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A three-day summit for Alaska students grades 6 through 12 wrapped up this week at Central Middle School, covering topics including identity, addiction, suicide prevention and team-building activities.
Three organizations join forces
For the first time, three organizations partnered to host the Alaska Youth Summit: the Anchorage Youth Court, the Polynesian Association of Alaska and Keys to Life.
“This year’s summit, we wanted to make sure our youth were part of talking about the different issues that are important to them,” Julie Toomey with Anchorage Youth Court said. “We have students who are talking about suicide prevention, advocacy, a cultural understanding, as well as … addictions.”
Students lead conversations, create art
Students led their own conversations, worked in groups, and created art during the summit. Each activity was designed to bring participants closer together.
