Downtown Augusta businesses see decrease in customers as construction continues

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Broad Street renovations in downtown Augusta are not expected to wrap up until early 2027, and local business owners said they are feeling the impact.

Business owners Michael Weldon and Havird Usry said the ongoing construction has made it difficult for customers to access their establishments.

“We’re basically in the middle of a construction site. It’s in front of us, and it’s behind us — doing a lot of work back there near Reynolds Street,” Weldon said. “The construction is one thing, but the biggest problem is the parking.”…
