AROUND TOWN: Cavitt warns Cupid’s hiring push could politicize Cobb government

Nearly five months after Cobb County’s former spokesman Ross Cavitt publicly warned of “a troubling log jam” in filling several county leadership positions, he is once again criticizing Commission Chair Lisa Cupid, accusing her of leading an effort that is holding several leadership roles “hostage.”

In a video posted to Facebook Thursday, Cavitt warned of what he described as an effort by Cupid to “have elected officials and politicians take on a greater role in operating the county government especially when it comes to appointing leaders of agencies and departments.

“Specifically, the proposal would give politicians the authority to appoint the directors of agencies and departments that provide services to Cobb County residents,” he wrote in the caption. “This effort has the potential to upend a system that has provided decades of stable, professional and impartial leadership in Cobb County.”…
