The massive project to tear down the elevated Interstate 81 viaduct in downtown Syracuse will cost at least twice the price estimated at the start of construction, a Syracuse.com analysis shows.
The state’s estimate in 2023 was $2.25 billion. Three years later, the state is on a path to spend at least $4.4 billion to build up the ring roads around Syracuse and tear down the elevated highway, according to a review of public records.
