Letters: Medicare Advantage plans must be affordable. Seniors’ lives depend on it.

Louisiana seniors rely on Medicare Advantage plans because they make real-world healthcare affordable.

As director of the New Orleans Senior RX Program at the Council on Aging, I appreciate that the federal government’s Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services adjusted the final Medicare Advantage rate notice to better reflect the real-world pressures facing the 35 million Americans and their families who rely on the program. Healthcare costs are top of mind for seniors and their families, especially to ensure access to high-quality care for many older Louisianans.

Healthcare affordability is an ongoing issue. Seniors will continue working on it with policymakers in Washington to strengthen Medicare Advantage and to ensure that concerns about the stability of the Medicare Advantage program and the predictability of healthcare costs are heard loud and clear…
